qutb shahi interpretation center

Paying homage to the heritage of its site, the Interpretation Centre quietly assumes the role of a spatial catalyst, enhancing the understanding of the site and its history.

The Qutb Shahi Heritage Park comprising the Tomb Complex, the Idgah and Deccan Park is one of the most significant medieval necropolis sites in the world. Taking advantage of the existing canopy, the Interpretation Centre blends into the threshold of history and ecology. With its open and civic identity, the building offers a luminous sequence of spaces promoting social, historic and cultural interaction. The main public and social spaces – entry court, café, museum lobby, museum shop, and the auditorium, are all located on the ground floor of the Interpretation Center. A ramp descends to the lower floor where the galleries, children’s activity area, sunken sculpture court and the curators’ offices are located. The white concrete walls – acting as both structure and surface, are punctuated by clear and frosted glazing, create an enclosure at once luminous and robust. Indian in spirit, yet unmistakably contemporary, the building welcomes visitors and encourages them to visually mix and flow through the galleries, promoting a heightened awareness of the treasures of the site.
