Made from hundreds of strips of leftover wood, the design creates a “blank space” as a counterpoint to the chaos of Kotla – the busy Delhi bazaar street outside.

The empty space had no plumb walls, because of which an independent structure was created by laminating lengths of the scrap Purple Heart and Ipe lumber on site to create primary frames – these were erected like a tent structure, with galvanized steel bolts. The structure has been designed so that it can easily be disassembled, and is based on the dimensions of the scrap strips of wood obtained from the client.
